Praying God’s Word Wednesday #45: Prayer for My Sisters

April 20, 2022 by Lauren 12 Comments

Prayer for my SistersToday is National Look Alike Day.  And it’s also National Multiple Birth Awareness Month.  So what better day to offer a prayer for my sisters? I have two great ones – one who is a look alike (#twinning) and another who is creatively unique.  I feel so blessed to have them both in my life.

In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he speaks (actually writes) to his brothers and sisters in Christ.  He loved other people – both fellow believers and non-believers –  so much that I feel sure his devotion equalled what I feel for my blood sisters.  This passage is filled with endearing names and sentiments.  The depth of his love was, no doubt, one of the keys to his effectiveness in the ministry of the Lord.  There is so much we can learn from Paul in how to love and encourage others well.

“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!”

Philippians 4:1 NIV

Warning:  This could get a little mushy.  Like Paul, I long to be with my sisters every chance I get.  We all live in the same metropolitan area but stay so busy that we don’t see each other nearly as often as I’d like.  But when we do get together, they bring me so much joy.  There is nothing like a comfortable hang with the people who know you the best.  I am so proud to call them my people.  So here is my prayer for my sisters.

Praying God’s Word Wednesday #44: 1 John 5:14

April 13, 2022 by Lauren 6 Comments

<a class=1 John 5:14" width="300" height="300" />Nothing in my life is more important and life-changing to me than prayer.  Reading God’s Word is a very close second.  And when I put the two together?  I get an overflow of blessing.  My spiritual life and relationship with God got a huge face lift when I made scripture prayer a regular practice.  I want this for you and others in my life too. That’s why I’m praying 1 John 5:14 over a friend today.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”

1 John 5:14

What better way to have confidence when we pray than when we pray God’s Words back to him!  And sometimes, I pray the scriptures almost word for word.  Like this:  “I ask that _____ would have confidence in approaching you.  That she would ask all things in accordance to your will and she would know that you hear her, God.”  Or sometimes I put my own spin on the words to expand the prayer – with original intent always in mind.

About Me

I love Jesus, my husband and caffeine. The order of these can change depending on how tired I am. When my two daughters, stepson, and 4 grandchildren get to be too much, I practice yoga. God graciously allows me to share our adventures, victories and flub-ups from my laptop. May He be glorified here.
