Sitting bleary-eyed at breakfast this morning, I vowed to Chuck to stay home today. I am still in my pajamas (ahhh), but by 10am, I have washed dishes, laundry, done some hot glue repair and rearranged the garage. And yet I STILL feel so much less frenzied and worn out than yesterday. What do I plan to do with the rest of my day? Spend more quality time in Bible reading and prayer, and maybe even take a nap so that I am in a better place to take my turn again with Shelby tonight. Then I will pick kids up from school and take Shelby to speech therapy. And yes, I will probably still be in my pajama pants. Just don’t tell my uber stylish friend Erin who owns the clinic. And what else am I allowing myself the time to do today? Blogging – which I love to do, but haven’t done in weeks.
The verse I’m meditating on today? Psalm 116:7 “Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.” Although our bodies definitely need physical rest, I am finding today that rest can also refer to a different kind of break. A break from your regular routine. Changing things up can feel refreshing. When you look at the list of things I’ve already done today, it may seem more like work than rest to you. But I feel so much better already by just deciding to tackle my day differently. So just call this stay-at-home mom crazy. Revolutionary. Coo-coo cachoo. Give it a try?
