Praying Glory to God in the Highest #2

December 8, 2021 by Lauren 14 Comments

gloryToday is International Tea Day and National Wear Your Pearls Day.  If you want to be fancy, throw on your jewels and brew some tea in your finest cup.  If not, just plop down in a comfy chair in your sweatpants and let’s pray glory to God in the Highest.

Staying in Luke chapter 2 – the most popular place to read the true Christmas story – we see the shepherds have just heard the marvelous news of the Savior.  After the angels returned to heaven, these men wasted no time in deciding to go find Jesus.  It is their expediency I want to focus on today.

“So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.”  Luke 2:16 NIV

I am challenged and encouraged by the haste of the shepherds to be with Jesus.

There was nothing, not even the sheep in their charge, that took priority over basking in the glory of the Savior.  So this prayer emerged:

Oh that I would hurry to the feet of Jesus versus moseying into my prayer closet in the morning with a sigh. Yet, I found him to be faithful. He meets me daily with new mercies.

“…to hurry daily…” is a beautiful phrase that I want to hold near and dear. I am grateful to be able to pray with you in the Name of Jesus.
    Amen

Busy-ness too often keeps my time at Jesus’ feet shorter than it should be. Thanks for the reminder of the shepherds’ beautiful hearts that longed to see His face. May my heart be to spend more time with Him daily.

I remember as a child hearing about the angels and the shepherds – and I could feel the awe of it deep in my soul. I want to slow down and savor those words, those scriptures – and what happened that night – and feel it like I did as a child!

About Me

I love Jesus, my husband and caffeine. The order of these can change depending on how tired I am. When my two daughters, stepson, and 4 grandchildren get to be too much, I practice yoga. God graciously allows me to share our adventures, victories and flub-ups from my laptop. May He be glorified here.
