Tomorrow is National Odometer Day! I’m sure my announcements about these obscure observances have changed your life in profound ways. For instance, today let’s look at the odometer as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. If we pay attention to it, it keeps us informed of what’s going on and gives us a true picture of what we do. And if we heed it, it keeps us in check. Are you with me? OK. It’s a stretch. Much like my Star Wars references last week. But let’s look at 1 Corinthians 12:3 anyway.
Our pastor recently started a sermon series on spiritual gifts. 1 Corinthians 12 is often used to teach about those giftings. While studying the passage, verse 3 struck me and my heart heard the word “discernment”.
Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:3 NIV
When staring at this verse, all I could think of were the many, many dangerous falsehoods the world bombards us with day in and day out! I cannot think of a more important prayer for ourselves, our church members and loved one and especially our kids than the request for discernment. So today’s prayer is for my precious children.
Replace the pronouns with the appropriate ones for the person (or yourself) that you are praying for. And if you are praying for your kids, say their names before the Father. I am doing so here in the privacy of my home.
Praying for you in this. And don’t forget to share on social media or with a friend who could benefit. It would mean so much to me. And if you don’t want to miss a Praying God’s Word Wednesday, subscribe over on the right hand side of this page.
