When a former yoga student of mine approached me with the idea of writing a human interest piece on my family for the Dallas Morning News, I didn’t know quite what to think. First of all, I somehow missed that she was a journalist. Second, my family seems pretty ordinary to me.
I thought about it and prayed about it. I concluded that we should pursue any possible opportunity to bring glory to God. So I agreed.
Harriet Blake, a special contributor for the Dallas Morning News interviewed me, my husband and daughter, friends and neighbors and other family members. She crafted a thoughtful and kind story. And I hope it glorifies God – center of all our stories.

I want to extend a big thank you to Harriet Blake for this opportunity and for you, dear reader, for supporting me in these endeavors. All praise God.

What a neat opportunity! Unfortunately, I couldn’t read the article without subscribing to the paper. But I am so glad for your story to get out to the Dallas area and pray with you that it glorifies God.
I’m sorry you couldn’t access it Barbara! I wish I understood why some people hit a paywall and others don’t.
I simply read the article on your image – if you click on the image it enlarges as much as you want/need. I read it there before I even spotted the link to the website – and no, there was no paywall.

What a great story! I do believe God gets glory from it. It’s wonderful how family, friends and neighbors work together for Shelby. I especially loved that Allie calls her sister, Beautiful!
We are thankful for our tribe, and the many gifts of our Father.
This beautiful story of your family and Shelby’s diagnosis, how the whole family, the community is all about glorifying God in the highest. I thank you for sharing this with us. Not only do I see you and your writing through new eyes, but I get a glimpse into your precious family. I hold you each and all in my prayers.
Thank you for such kind words, Linda. And thank you especially for the prayers. They mean so much.
I hadn’t heard of Dravet syndrome. It’s awesome that you agreed to be interviewed so that others can be educated about this rare disease – and get some idea of how to cope with any challenging diagnosis. Shelby sounds like a happy, loving person.
