When a former yoga student of mine approached me with the idea of writing a human interest piece on my family for the Dallas Morning News, I didn’t know quite what to think. First of all, I somehow missed that she was a journalist. Second, my family seems pretty ordinary to me.

I thought about it and prayed about it. I concluded that we should pursue any possible opportunity to bring glory to God. So I agreed.

Harriet Blake, a special contributor for the Dallas Morning News interviewed me, my husband and daughter, friends and neighbors and other family members. She crafted a thoughtful and kind story. And I hope it glorifies God – center of all our stories.

This podcasting family features three authors, Elyse Fitzpatrick, Jessica Thompson, and Joel Fitzpatrick. I was so honored and excited and nervous. But they were so welcoming and encouraging that they put me right at ease. Plus I got to talk about Shelby – one of my favorite subjects.

The topic: Disability and the Church. Straight talk…this is tough. I’ve hurt feelings over this post on the topic. So I prayed up and asked God to give me the words to say that would bring glory to Him and build up His church. I hope that I have done that here. The subject is serious but the hosts are a hoot, so I think you’ll enjoy listening. And please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
